Biography / Bibliography
Jules Dedet Granel, alias L'Atlas, is a French artist born in 1978.
The roots of his inspiration and researches, through paintings, sculptures and installations, are the Writing, in its various formal and conceptual approaches. He studied calligraphy in many countries and cultures and thus he creates some original and dynamic typographies, developing a wide range of variations, towards and away from Op Art and abstraction. His work is the outcome of transposing arabic Kufi codes into Latin alphabet, and syncretisms with other calligraphies such as chinese ideograms. In the 90's, the artist radically shows his work in the public space, becoming one of the most famous Graffiti artist; since the years 2000 he creates a large body of work in the studio which is exhibited in art centers, museums and galleries. Dedet Granel always studies and renews his formal expressions of the Letter, from a codified rythme of Writing.
L'Atlas work is visible in Paris, New York, Miami, Marrakech, Geneva and Gstaad at Tournemine Gallery. Agnès b. is one of his regular collector, among others. His work was exhibited at Centre Pompidou, Fondation Cartier, Grand Palais, the network of the French Institutes in the world, and biennials and art fairs, such as Moscow, New York, Beijing. He also produces monumental performances, in the framework of commands from public or private institutions. Some timelaps and videos remain the tracks.
